The Brownie 44 was produced in the 60's, and has similar styling to the 127 model 3 - in otherwords its an ugly lump of plastic. There are infact two sub-models, the a and the b. This particular camera is a 44a, which supports two apertures, at a fixed shutter speed. This is achieved by lowering a metal ring behind the lens when required. The 44b offers greater range of exposures.
Here's the manual for the 44b model. You can find more manuals in the Brownie Manuals group on Yahoo.
Despite the appeal of a 4x4 image, I haven't been able to get particulary interested in this camera. However I recently discovered that a 32mm push-on filter adaptor fits this camera very nicely.
