Kodak Brownie Starflex

The Brownie Starflex (1957-64) like most of the Kodak "star" series is pretty uncommon in the UK. Despite the British weather Kodak didn't seem to thing that we might appreciate cameras with a flash option! In the case of the starflex this is provided by Pin and Screw flash contacts, allowing it to connect to kodak flash bulb system. The original price was $10.

Of course the main feature of the starflex is it's large bright waist level finder. Combined with it's small size (it really is tiny) and 44 framing, that makes it really easy and fun to use for street shooting (as shown by our own Martin Leichter.

The image quality is a bit rough - blame it on that Dakon lens, but thats probably not the point. There's a choice of two apertures, labeled color and b&w.

Finally the starflex holds one more secret - turn it upside down, and you'll find two wire loops embeded in the base... Flip them out and you have a "sports" finder. It's not as precise (hah!) as the reflex finder, but it makes tracking moving objects a lot easier.
