My girlfriend works as a wedding photographer - a tough job, that I would hate to do. On occasion I get roped in to fetch and carry bags, load film into cameras, and generally help out. If I'm lucky, during a quiet momment I get to bring out one of my cameras and shoot some stuff of my own. That's actually a lot of fun, as I'm can shoot what I like rather than having to do the hard work of capturing the whole day for a client.
I usually only shoot one or two rolls, and discard most of them. However if I can get one GREAT shot (at least by my standards) then I've had a good day.
The tractor shot was taken on a Komaflex (summmer 04). The light was just fading, so there's a balance of natural light and flash. It was total guess-work but by chance I got it right giving it an almost studio look..
The Kids under the table, and the man eating chicken were both taken in January 04 on a Yashica 44a. As soon as I saw the man, I knew I was going to get a great shot of him. All night I was just waiting for the momment. I had the shot framed as he picked up the chicken, but held back. Then I suddenly thought I'd waited too long and missed the shot. I fired the shutter thinking I'd missed the momment by 1/10th of second. As it turned out I think I got lucky again - not the sort of picture you'd want in a wedding album, but a lovely portrait.
